Usually with a zest for life I’d recommend anyone to nail it! Just get it done, sort it, achieve… But not this time.
This time I’m going against the grain.
For weeks I’ve been mentioning the 5 essentials for you before starting DIY, of which 4 I’ve covered already – eye goggles, ear plugs, face mask, clothing. I haven’t yet touched on 5th…
Then would you believe it, I discovered a 6th highly essential item! Any ideas?
I’ll give you a clue..
I’ve discovered an humongous number of nails – sticking out of the most random pieces of brick, wood, render… between boarding, sticking out from joists, attached to architrave.
Even with thick soled shoes I’ve trodden on zillions of nails and have scraped my arms on some obscurely angled. A guy at work even asked if I had a cat, from all my arm scratches! No, I don’t own a cat.
I admit this looks rather phallic, haha!
Have you guessed yet?
If you haven’t, I’ll let you into the secret… the 6th essential to have for yourself is an up-to-date tetanus injection. Nail it!
What is tetanus?
Tetanus is a serious bacterial infection that affects the nervous system and causes muscles throughout the body to tighten. Also called ‘lockjaw’ as the infection often causes muscle contractions in the jaw and neck, but it can eventually spread to other parts of the body.
Tetanus infection can be life-threatening without immediate, emergency treatment in hospital. Approximately 10 to 20 percent of tetanus infections can be fatal.
How to prevent tetanus
Fortunately, tetanus is preventable through the use of a vaccine. However, this vaccine does not last forever. Tetanus booster shots are needed every 10 years to ensure immunity.
So why not check yours is up-to-date? Not worth the risk when dealing with these little beauties!
